The New York Giants on Thursday agreed to terms with former San Diego Chargers tackle Shane Olivea.
Olivea's agent, Kenny Zuckerman, confirmed the agreement to PA SportsTicker, saying Olivea will sign after passing a physical and a workout.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but ESPN.com reported it is for one year.
The 26-year-old Olivea was suspended for four games last month for a missed drug test, which came two months after he reportedly had failed another drug test.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Olivea missed a second drug test on June 20, but the league determined the 6-4, 312-pounder did not receive proper notification of the earlier drug test results because he had checked himself into a drug treatment center.
A seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2004, Olivea started 31 of 32 games over his first two seasons and was rewarded with a six-year contract extension prior to the 2006 season.
Olivea started 57 games in four seasons for San Diego, which released him on February 28.
