Giants looking to extend road success

The New York Giants are heading to their comfort zone this weekend.

Need a hint to figure out the destination? Just look at their Super Bowl rings. One side is dedicated to the team's success on the road.

New York won its final 11 games away from Giants Stadium last season, and coach Tom Coughlin is hoping that confidence carries over Sunday when the Giants (1-0) face the Rams (0-1) in St. Louis.

"We have quite a string of games won on the road and we have won them all different ways," Coughlin said. "We have come from behind, we have come from down 14, we have had to battle back."

A year ago, New York ended the season with a four-game losing streak at home. The Giants opened this season with a 16-7 win at home over the Washington Redskins.

"The great thing about this team is we do a good job of playing four quarters of football," center Shaun O'Hara said. "We understand that the game is either won and lost in the fourth quarter. I think on the road that is one of the biggest challenges. Can you withstand that first half and that initial rush from the home team and just continue to play?"

Rams coach Scott Linehan said that the Giants have become as dominating on the road as some teams at home. They have learned to shut out the boos and jeers and focus on the job.

"They just have a knack of just tuning it out and getting the job done," Linehan said. "That is what everybody strives to be as a football team; you want to have that kind of mental toughness from your team, and Tom does as good a job as anybody I have ever seen as far as getting his team ready to play in adverse situations."

Receiver Plaxico Burress thinks the Rams will be tough this weekend, coming off an embarrassing 38-3 loss at Philadelphia in the season opener.

"Those guys are going to come out fired up the way they played last week," Burress said. "Everybody is saying bad things about them."

Quarterback Marc Bulger said the Rams can't afford another slow start or the crowd will turn on them quickly.

"I just know for myself, being a fan of other sports, I would be upset if my team lost the way we did," Bulger said.
